Photography is an art. Photographer should be creative. Just because someone has an expensive camera or lens doesn’t mean that he is a good photographer.
Camera with more megapixels or more zoom does not mean that the camera produces quality photos. More MPs demand more memory on your camera/laptop. A 3 to 5MPs photograph is enough for a A4 size print or desktop background.
Photo editing is also an art.
Capture the decisive moment. Some incidents occur in fraction of a second. You should click at the right time.
There is no “magic” camera or lens. The person behind the camera matters.
Don’t take your DSLR to family tours/parties. You cannot enjoy either of them.
People will always discredit your work if you tell them you have edited your images. Rather, tell them that they are original with no edition.
Take at least 2 backups of your photos. (Like a famous Yakshagana dialogue "One son is not son"). You may loose them due to virus, hard disc crash or by any other means.
Get closer to the subject when taking your photos, they often turn out better.

Take photos from a proper angle.
Cover the entire subject inside the frame.
Light is the most important element in photography.
Photos captured in natural light are best.
When there is too much of light, under expose.
Take several photos of the same subject at different angles, exposures or apertures.
Think & imagine before you shoot.
Like a good painting, a good photo do not need explanation.

Hold your camera straight. Take straight photos.
Shoot with confidence.

Frame your photos.
Print your photos big. Share your photos with friends & strangers. Show only your best photos. They will make you happy.
A tripod is good to have but you don’t need to always carry a tripod with you everywhere you go.
No photo editing tool changes bad images into good ones.
You don’t need to fly to Switzerland to get good photos, the best photo opportunities are in your backyard.

Handle cameras/lenses with utmost care. They are not toys.
Be original in your photography. Don’t try to copy the style of others.

Have fun while taking photos. Enjoy every moment.
Never stop taking photos. The more photos you take, the better you get. Your skills improve with practice & time.

Respect people or places while shooting them.
Never delete any of your photos. Watch & analyze them how they became good or went bad.
Draw inspiration from other photographers but never copy them.
Share your photos on internet, accept comments. Join photography forums, watch & comment on others' work. Read photography tutors, attend workshops. Spend little time on all these and more time shooting your own.
The disadvantage of being a photographer is people(especially girls :) ) dig you to take their photos. Another disadvantage is you will not get a perfect portrait of yours.
Photographer need to travel a lot.
Photography is an expensive hobby. It needs more money, time, patience & energy. It hardly earns you money but whole lot of satisfaction.
